Warner Park Stadium Mold Report Exposes Government Neglect Once Again – PAM Calls for Urgent Action to Protect Public Health
Basseterre, St. Kitts – The People's Action Movement (PAM) is expressing deep concern over the shocking findings of an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessment conducted at the Warner Park Football Stadium. The report, dated June 11, 2025, reveals alarming levels of airborne particulates, widespread mold growth, moisture damage, and evidence of possible sewage gas exposure across key areas of the facility.
According to the independent audit conducted by BREATHE EASY, dangerous levels of fine particulate matter (PM0.5 and PM2.5) were recorded in nearly every room tested, including the Media Room, Locker Rooms, and Storeroom. The presence of standing water, fungal contamination, decaying carpets, and high humidity levels throughout the facility make the environment unsafe for athletes, officials, and staff.
Most concerning are the findings that:
The Storeroom recorded the highest PM0.5 levels at 2,430 µg/m³, nearly 10 times the acceptable limit;
The Media Room contained 1 inch of standing water and visible fungal buildup;
Locker Room A presented signs of sewer gas, posing serious health risks; and
Multiple ceilings and walls show signs of active water damage and mold colonization.
The report concludes that without immediate remediation, the facility risks further microbial growth, respiratory illness, material degradation, and potential long-term closure.
"This is not just a maintenance issue – this is a public health crisis. The lives and wellbeing of our national athletes, our youth, and the people who use this stadium are at stake,” said Mrs Natasha Grey-Brookes, Political Leader of the People's Action Movement. “We’ve seen this movie before. The Basseterre High School mold scandal was downplayed and denied by the very same administration that now oversees Warner Park’s decay. The Government’s response then was silence and spin. We will not allow that to happen again.”
PAM is calling on the Government to:
Immediately close all affected zones of the stadium and begin professional mold remediation;
Disclose all inspection records for Warner Park and other public facilities dating back five years;
Conduct independent airborne spore testing and release results publicly before reopening;
Launch a national IAQ audit program to include schools, hospitals, and other high-traffic public buildings;
Establish an Emergency Facilities Maintenance Fund with public reporting obligations.
The People's Action Movement stands ready to lead with integrity, transparency, and urgency. Our citizens deserve to live, work, and play in environments that are safe and healthy. We will not rest until accountability is served and this issue is resolved in the interest of the people.
